Ithaca is a non-custodial, composable, option, option strategies and structured products (and soon) protocol on Arbitrum (and soon on Base and Solana) underpinned by a provably optimal, auction-based matching engine.

Current Rankings

Ithaca already ranks consistently between #1 and #4 option protocols in terms of volumes and premia on DefiLlama, having been live for few months and liquidity ramping up.

Vision

Ithaca will be the no1 option protocol across chains

Why options? Option market is huge everywhere; never a ‘demand for options‘ challenge, always ‘liquidity’; Ithaca solved this.

'It is easy to build a perp product when you have an option market. It is very hard to build an option market when you just got perps.'

Ithaca will be the 'Uniswap of Options'

Similar to how a protocol would seed an AMM pool to generate liquidity on spot trading of their token, Ithaca has built innovative modular infrastructure that allows for instant spin up of complete liquid option / option strategy / structured product markets on any underlying.

Market Traction

Ithaca already is showing traction with knowledgeable power users that can access for the first time ( not only in DeFi, but also in CeFi and TradFi )

IthacaGPT allow non sophisticated users to translate nuanced views into, potentially complicated, option strategies. Perps can’t compete; no other protocol (TradFi / CeFi) can compete with Ithaca.

Problems and Solutions

Pain Points

Liquidity Fragmentation: Liquidity for options trading is scattered across various blockchains, leading to inefficiencies and limiting market growth.

Complexity in Trading and Risk Management: Traditional options and structured product trading can be opaque and inaccessible, particularly when dealing with complex payoffs or advanced strategies.

High Capital Requirements: Existing systems often necessitate over-collateralization and inefficient use of capital, creating barriers for both market makers and traders.

Lack of Dynamic Trading Features: Many trading platforms lack advanced features like conditional orders and dynamic strategies, reducing flexibility and user engagement.

Limited Accessibility and Scalability: Current infrastructures fail to provide seamless cross-chain interoperability and rapid deployment of new markets for diverse assets, restricting innovation and user participation.

Exposure to MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) Risks: Inefficient market clearing mechanisms leave traders vulnerable to MEV exploitation, affecting price fairness and transparency.

No digital options presentable in DeFi / CeFi, no way to decompose and recompose any payoff one wishes among option strategies and structured products

Ithaca is building a non-custodial risk primitive that will allow billions in options volume to migrate on-chain while enabling an efficient outlet for trillions in latent options and structured payoff demand. On-chain option volumes are significantly underperforming spot and perps’ ones; crypto option penetration significantly undershooting that of all other asset classes.

The Ithaca Protocol is underpinned by a matching engine that decomposes option payoffs into fundamental building blocks, allows for atomic matching and conditional order logic, and utilizes replication, portfolio dominance, and collateral optimization principles. It is designed to short-circuit liquidity bootstrapping which will shorten the time to institutional-level scale in on-chain options markets, which is hampered by fragmentation across blockchains and low liquidity amidst an absence of risk-sharing mechanics’ innovation.

Ithaca’s mission revolves around addressing these challenges by designing permissionless purpose-built infrastructure to aggregate cross-chain liquidity and enable optimal risk sharing across time and event horizons. Powered by an auction-based, and therefore MEV-resistant, algorithmic market clearing framework, Ithaca will allow for instant deployment of composable options and structured product markets for any asset.

Decomposition of Option Payoffs: Simplifies complex option trades into basic elements, rendering trading and risk management more transparent and enhancing liquidity.

Atomic Matching and Conditional Orders: Supports dynamic trading strategies with atomic trades and conditional intent based logic, offering a significant improvement over traditional trading systems.

Efficiency and Risk Management: Utilizes replication, portfolio dominance, and collateral optimization to use capital more efficiently and improve risk management, reducing further capital requirements and boosting liquidity, while maintaining trustlessness.

Cross Chain Liquidity Aggregation & Interoperability: Designed to pool liquidity from various blockchains, addressing liquidity fragmentation and expediting the growth of on-chain options markets by using Axelar to bridge assets from supported blockchains directly onto Arbitrum.

Composable Risk Primitives: Facilitates swift market setup for diverse products on any asset, rendering option markets more versatile and robust.

Project Milestones
